I'm sure that this is a reeaaaalllyy simple thing, that I simply cannot find.

I want to change the type of roof.  In the manual/book thing my teacher showed me, it says that you can place three roof types by footprint.  Then it goes on to tell you to place a flat roof, but I can't get anything but a hip roof.  I don't want a hip roof.  How do you change the roof type?

You need to learn to use your HELP.  This process is very well explained there:  The images in the help do not copy so go there to really see this.

Creating a Roof

Add a roof using one of the following methods:

Sketch a roof by footprint

  1. Display a floor plan view or a reflected ceiling plan view.
  2. Click (Roof by Footprint).

    Where is it?

    • Home tabBuild panelRoof drop-down (Roof by Footprint).
NoteIf you try to add a roof on the lowest level, a dialog prompts you to move it to a higher level. If you choose not to move the roof to a different level, Revit Architecture notifies you later if the roof is too low.
  3. On the Draw panel, select a sketch or pick tool.

To edit roof properties before sketching, use the Properties palette.

TipWhen using Pick Walls, you can specify the overhang before you sketch the roof. On the Options Bar, select Extend to wall core if you want the overhang to be measured from the core of the wall, and then specify a value for Overhang.
  4. Sketch, or pick, a closed loop for the roof.
  5. Specify slope defining lines.

To change the slope definition of a line, select the line and, on the Properties palette, click Defines Roof Slope. You can then change the slope value.

When a roof line is set to slope defining, this symbol appears adjacent to it.

  6. Click (Finish Edit Mode), and then open a 3D view.

When you are creating your roof click on the line that you want to slope and on your options bar check the "defines slope" button

WWHub beat me to it that time!
