Im looking to show the ammount of shadow that my canopy provides in plan but I cant seem to hide the canopy to see it because it then removes its shadow. Any way of hiding a element but have it still cast a shadow or maybe be in the lowest plan but have the canopy from above still show?

I am not in front of revit to test (and I think will not work..) but try this: create a "Plan Region" in that zone and change the view range....  Now you can't see the canopy but do you see the shadows?

Interesting challenge.

I tried ceiling plans, floor plans, plan regions, element overrides, transparancy, and 3d views from the top.

It appears that if the roof does not show in the view it simply will not cast a shadow.

Even in a regular 3d view. Once the roof is somehow not shown so goes the shadow.

There may be a sneaky way to get this to work but so far I cannot.

Old post... but you may be able to make the element transparent vs hiding it, then use invisible line override on the edges.

How do you get the floor above to show in shadow but not the floor itself?
