Hello,
Does anyone have a suggestion for what to do when a shared parameter file is accidentally deleted? We had several parameters setup in a generic annotation family for our finish plans/schedule, and now all that data that was entered has dissapeared, while the annotations are still there. If I copy them from a backup file, the information comes back, but only until the file is reopened, and its all gone again.
Not quite sure how to proceed...if I were to re-setup the same exact parameters in a new text file, would that work?
Thanks!

You can export shared parameters from any file into a new shared parameters file. This is all explained in your HELP. << A VERY GOOD RESOURCE
Exporting Shared Parameters to a Shared Parameter File
You can export shared parameters to a new shared parameter file if the old parameter file is deleted, or if there are shared parameters in a family or a project that are not in the current shared parameter file.
Before you can export them, you must already have added the shared parameters into a Revit Architecture project file or family file. For more information on adding shared parameters, see Adding Shared Parameters to Families and Project Parameters.
- Create or open a shared parameter file.
For more information on creating shared parameter files, see Setting Up Shared Parameter Files.
- Select a shared parameter in either a family or a project.
- Click Modify.
- In the Parameter Properties dialog, click Export.
NoteThe Export option is never enabled if the selected shared parameter is already in the current shared parameter file.
A message displays informing you that the shared parameter will be exported to the shared parameter file you set up in Step 1.
- Click OK to complete the export.

Great, thanks so much! Note to self: check the "Help" file first :-)

helpful tip going forward: keep a copy of your shared parameter file in the same folder where the original lives. in my company only a few people have permission to edit the Shared parameter file; if someone without permission tries to edit it through Revit, all the contents are deleted, which happened a number of times. Whenever I create new shared parameters, I make a new copy of the file. That way, if anything happens to the original, all I have to do is delete " - Copy" from the end of the name and we're back in business. (And then I make a new copy...!)

Follow up to this question - how do you track down the location of the shared parameter file? When I click and modify the shared paramter that I would like to add to another family the file path is not listed. This appears to be more often than not. Also, could you explain more about why the export function is not enabled? -
"NoteThe Export option is never enabled if the selected shared parameter is already in the current shared parameter file."
I'm stuck because Revit is not telling me what or where the file is in the first place, and is not giving me the option to export.
Thanks

The current shared parameter file for a particular project is shown under the manage tab / shared for that project. Families are each seperate and are viewed from the family editor.

That's the issue though. It does not display anything but is clearly referencing a shared parameters file nonetheless. It looks like this information gets lost unless you have it locally? Is there some other place where Revit stores this information that you know of?

Anyone else know how to retrieve this information? In my case Revit does not display the info for shared parameters in the location WWHub indicated.

In most cases, you will not have the shared parameter file unless you made it yourself. That is why Revit has the export feature I describe above.

That is rather unfortunate. Seems a bit flawed. Maybe that would be a good wishlist item. Thanks for your reply as always.

There is nothing flawed here at all. Think about this..... How many shared parameter files do you want to deal with? There would be one for every family created by anybody!!!! The way it is allows you to add shared parameters to your file from any family when you need it.
