Hello,

I am currently using Revit Architecture 2012 and am trying to export a project file in a .fbx format to start using Autodesk Showcase which I just downloaded a free trial for. For whatever reason, Revit won't let me export any file in a .fbx format. Instead of being able to click on that as an option, it's greyed out. Is there an update I need to download or an fbx plug-in I need to get to utilize the fbx exporting function??

PS: I've put myself in the 3D view which I know can be an issue of why the fbx export function is greyed out.

Thanks!

You only need to Read the HELP and follow the instructions:

Exporting to FBX

  1. In Revit Architecture, open a 3D view, and prepare it for export.

See Before Exporting a 3D View to 3ds Max.

  2. Click Export(FBX).
TipIf FBX displays as gray, open a 3D view of the project, and then try again.
  3. In the Export 3ds Max (FBX) dialog, for Save in, navigate to the target folder for the exported file.
  4. For Naming, do one of the following:
    • To specify a file name manually, select Manual (Specify file name). For File name/prefix, specify the name of the output file.
YOU HAVE TO BE IN THE VIEW!  Not just looking at it.
    • To use an automatically generated file name, select Automatic – Long (Specify prefix), or Automatic – Short. See File Names for Exported Files.
  5. Click Save.

Revit Architecture generates the FBX file and places it in the target location.

I'm looking at the view and I clicked/highlighted a couple items to make sure I was in it as well. Still didn't work. Unless that's not the proper way  to be "in the view"?
