I cant seem to insert an exit light while in the RCP View and have it attach correctly.  It displays in elevation on the plan view.  If I insert in 3D view it will attach correctly.

What am I doing wrong?

When you are about to place the family, choose "place on face" rather than the default "place on vertical face" on the Placement ribbon.
