I am considering going to china to do a project and I am curious as to what the law is concerning taking my revit software with me into the country.  Can someone discuss the issues of design in China

What are you worried about?

I did a project in China 15 years ago and didn't have any problems using AutoCAD there on my lap-top.

Are there issues with copyright of the software.  I will be the only person using it, but wondered if the software is checked at customs

No problems and they don't check anything on your system.

I wasn't doing project work, but when I went to China I took two laptops (work and personal) with all sorts of stuff installed, and there were zero issues. As WWHub said, they don't fire them up and see what's on them. They just run them through the xray machines.

Chinese people clone everything. The worst thing that could hapen is that they ask you for a copy of your revit in order to to do a clone. Do you know the "ZWCAD"? It is exactly like AutoCad but made in China.
