Does anyone have any advice on how to incorporate a fixed fee for clash/collision detection services into their contact or as "additional services"?  This would be for 50,000 to 250,000 SF office buildings and/or hospitals.

Has anyone convinced an owner that it is something they should pay extra for?  A lot of clients just think its "included" in the design fees, but considering the amount of work it entails, there's just no room for it, but it does bring tremendous value.

I'm not looking for an outsource service either, we would like to provide this all "in house".

thanks in advance,

Hi Cameron,

I know this thread is already old but maybe my answer reaches you.

All the owners believe that the design they pay for will be "clash free", reality shows that this is not the case at all. In order to make him extra pay for that, you have to offer a free trial of one part of his project. Model the services, run the clash report and show him the results. Than ask him how much it will cost him to do the repair on site......

On one occasion I offered the client a clash testing with clash solution contract for a project in Manila, he didn't want to pay the fees I asked for so I agreed that I take 5% of the project cost savings as a result of the coordinated design....I got 3x more than my original fee.

This client now uses only 3D modelling and clash detection for his projects and he has a budget allocated for that.

cheers,

wolfgang

Thanks for the response!

How were you able to prove that you saved the client money by coordinating the design properly? and thus able to get a better negotiated contract fee?  Thanks!
