Hi Everyone,

I have been doing research on the internet about all the uses of reference planes within a project and not in a family. I want to hear from you on anything I may be missing using reference planes in a project. Tips, Ideal Uses, etc. below is my list. Can you add to it? I am really only concerned about Reference Planes and not Reference Lines. As well as specifically limiting the use to projects and not the family.

Uses:

  • Placement of Components - vertical, horizontal and angled
  • Cut Geometry
  • Additional Contstraints
  • Construction Lines (Xline from AutoCAD)

Tips:

  • Name Reference Planes
  • Use RP, Offset
  • Dimension adjustment is by order of creation
  • Drawing Left to Right VS Right to Left determines + and - of extrusions
  • Reference Planes are printable
  • Can be used for alignment

Thanks!

You'll find plenty of discussion on Reference Planes under Autodesk WikiHelp. May I ask if you have a particular question on reference plance that you would like it to have?

It was very general because I am gathering information for a training session. I like to spend  several hours gathering information from the internet based on others people uses and findings then evaluate it for my team. This portion of the session is covering RP's and how they can be used effectively in the project instead of families; I covered RP's in families in a previous session. Essentially I want to know how the rest of this forum is using RP's in the Project instead of inside families. My courses typically run one to two hours and includes beginner to intermediate level users.
