What does that tool really do? Is it for joining beams to columns, or beams to beams and columns to columns. I have a UC vertical column at intervals on my plan which are supposed to receive each a beam connection angled at 30deg. Then from each of these beams is another beam at a different angle. I am trying to join the last beam to the first beam and the whole to the column. I can't figure out how this tool work; whenever I try this the other beam is grayed out. And even how do i join my beam to the column. I am using Revit Architecture not Structure but this tool exists in it. So how does one use it. I have read in places that you have to use reference plane as a cut plane, but whenever I try to do this in elevation my beams and column display only as lines, why is that? I cannot see the beam and columns shapes in elevation to draw the reference plane at their intersection. Can someone help?

"I try to do this in elevation my beams and column display only as lines, why is that? I cannot see the beam and columns shapes in elevation to draw the reference plane at their intersection." - In that elevation view change the "coarse"  mode view to "Medium or Fine" mode view.

Hope this Help.

@Typhoon. I managed to do this with the link you sent. Now how do I clean up the joints between the beams? There should be a plate between them. Also how do I joint beam and column? I have tried but in vain.

You may need to use a sereis of families of both 'external rfa's'  and 'In-place'.

I'm not sure if people model every plate, bracket, brace and stiffner in the structure ? I would not.

I would just add the 2d linework and 'detail components' to the specific views.

Well I have a glass frame structure coming onto the top of the middle part of the structural framework while a standing seam roofing system comes onto the surrounding part; the whole idea is first to show how the structure works and how the lighting system hangs onto the supporting frame then the internal look of the building, besides it is expected to be schedulable. I know I could use a modelinplace or inplace tool to build this but I need it to be schedulable. I tried copying a steel member then positioned it below to be in similar position as the stiffeners or brackets, and to cut it with the beam/column join tool, but it keeps cutting the part I needed away and leaving the the part I wanted to cut away. Anybody with an idea? If I know how to display the columns in elevation and how to activate the reference tool in the project environment this would be a straight forward thing to achieve.
