Hey everyone,

My firm is about to start working on a project were the contractor is asking to use our model for project scheduling, clash detection, and material takeoffs, etc. (4d and 5d).  I am curious as to how detailed firms are making their models for things like this. Is there any good reference material out there that gives a clear step by step process of the levels of detail that need to be provided throughout the project's lifecycle? I have looked through a lot of websites looking for something along these lines but have come up short. Any tips or comments would be appreciated. Thank You in advance.

LOD should be established by the contract.  You should not model to a higher level of detail just because the contractor wants to use the model, unless the owner or the conractor pays for it.  DON'T JUST GIVE THIS AWAY.  It has vfalue and it costs your firm money and - potential liability!
