Quite tempted to do this, because in the floor family, we can use the deck profile, but in a roof family we can't. What will I lose if I do so?

When I talk with a co-worker about this just now, She suggested I may lose the right to insert a skylight into it, because we can't insert a window in a floor. Sounds quite logic. But when I check the floor based generic family, I found the family type can be changed to window. Did someone have similar experience?

And is there any other feature I may lose if I use a fllor to model a flat roof?

You are correct, and it is actually common to make flat roofs as floors. Yes, you can put windows in that floor if you need to,creating a face-based or floor-based window families. You have the same system of layers of materials, and the same panel for shape editing points.

The main difference is the roof thinks it's a floor as far as it's 'category' goes. So it will follow the object style, display, visibility graphics and filter rules of a 'floor' element.
