Hi guys!

i'm new here! i noticed that revit has only a few industrial refrigeration related components. (ant they are not available for download either) here are some components that i hink would make revit a lot better for this section of users:

i post also a image link so people know what i am talking about!

heat exchanger (http://www.laygo-dichtungen.de/lib/imagen.php?w=200&h=250&filename=http://www.clonica.net/usuario/img_usuario/laygogaskets.com/Seccion_Imagen_1/44.PHE1-1522.png)

chillgroups (cant find an image of this, but its basically a huge tank with 1/2/4 heat exchangers below.)

screw compressors of the Sabroe kind (like the sab193L)

Piston compressors for refrigeration

amoniak air cleaners (http://www.simona-city.de/typo3temp/pics/d35461a538.jpg)

 evaporators

i am actually working on the heat exchanger and the chillgroups, and as next ill start working on the air cleaners. it would be nice if somebody with a lot more experience then i have would draw and share the compressors.

i know that there are screw and piston compressors in revit but the kind of compressor in revit is totally different from the ones i posted so its almost useless since a motor with the same oower will have huge differences in sizes.

thank you

best regards

Igor

have you exhausted the other sources, i.e. manufacturer's some have either, ACAD, or some may have sketchup models of there various parts. Just an idea, www.google3dwarehouse.com

hi!

thanks for your answer,

i already have 3D models for most of these files, as 3D DWG and as inventor files. but i have been told that it is much better to redraw them instead of importing them because imported files give a lot of problems. i had problems on imported files that couldnt change material. they just remain the color i have imported them..

plus the compressor 3D drawings are way to big. they are 24 mb dwg's with every single screw in it. and are protected by NDA so i couldnt share those anyway.

You can import or link CAD files ...but you don't want many 24 meg ones if any.  Can you "Gut" the CAD file?  For you needs I think you just need the shell... and no screws or bolts.

as usual, I'd agree with WWHub here,

I love having families that are physically accurate but you have to ensure your time is going to good use. For mechanical components that are hidden behind walls and ceilings; just a parametric shell will do since they won't show up in many views or renderings. If you have too many large file sizes loaded in, you'll be sacrificing performance.

What is key to good mechanical components are the connections. The model may look perfect but if the connections don't operated right, the family is useless.

thanks guys for the answer!

what do you mean by "connections"?

how can a imported shell be parametric?

thanks!

If you import a CAD DWG into a family, it can not be parametric.  You would need to re-create that with Revit elements.

If you have different sized units and you want to use these CAD DWG's, then just make seperate families.  No need for these to be "all in the family".

I've attached an image showing where to add the connections from, then you apply them a face or work plane. You need these to connect into other systems. I don't really know what your modelling here but a refridgerant line would have to have incoming and outgoing water lines, right? so you'd add two connections, and then with the parameters associated with connections, you can parametrically control everything: radius, fixture units, pressure drop, etc. the actually object could just be a box to represent the size and shape.

thanks guys! will look into this asap! very useful info!

i have already modelled everything, made it parametric. now i try to model the screw compressors without importing the files. i will use the import as last solution if the drawing fails.

i still would need somebody who can draw the piston compressors. i can send the 2D drawings!
