I'm trying to create an arched opening for an overhead garage door. Revit won't let me modify the opening of my existing family so in the model I tried adding a short piece of wall with an arch, but when I join that wall to the existing wall with the door, the short wall disappears. I tried creating a component arch and joining it to the existing wall, but the line of the garage door shows through. Any ideas how to get rid of this line? edit: when I tried adding the short piece of wall, the rendering was ok but the elevation showed the line of the door thru the wall Post edited on 2004-05-13 13:06:32

Why won't Revit let you modify the opening? It should let you edit the sketch in elevation view.

I should be able to edit the opening in elevation view but the error message I get is "sketch is no longer parallel to it's defining plane"

Sounds like the head of the door is defined by a reference plane and is locked to it. Be sure that the opening (cut) and the door head is not linked to a refence plane. I assume you only want the opening arched, and not the door head, or both?

I think that's why it's not working, but I have not had time to play around with it, and yes, I just need the opening arched.
