Hi, I've been learning Revit at Uni, I'm in my second year now....  I'm trying to create a wall to use in my current project.  So I've opened a new family file and used the generic wall template.  I've created an extrusion that looks like a stratco product.  It looks fantastic in the family file, but I can't seem to find it once I import the file into my project....  anyone know what I'm doing wrong??

I'm using version 2013.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.  Heidi

Ok, so I've worked out the the family I created is used as a componant.  I've added it in pannels to my walls, but I can't make it connect to the roof like the wall is, help anyone??

can I make this componant so it will attact to the roof?  Or is there any way to create a new wall family that has this componant as a layer of the wall, so that it reacts the same as a normal wall??

Getting a bit frustrated!!

Thanks heaps

Walls are "System families", you don't have any "template" to create walls, what you should do is in your project duplicate one of them then change the wall parameters like you want.

Include a picture of the wall you want--it sounds to me like you could edit an existing wall type to be what you want.

Just want something that looks like a steel sheet type product....  attached is the file I made of the stratco maxiclad product that I was trying to make.  It is the componant part I created.  I have successfully attached it to the wall as a part, but am not happy with the fact that I can't extend it, just have to place then cut as required, very time consuming, and can't make it extend to the top of the wall.

just want to make the wall look like it's got a similar product on it.   My teacher just says to find a finish that I like, but I can't seem to find anything that looks like what I want.

Thanks

Your teacher is right.  Use a material finish rather than modeling profiles.  Google "color clad", you will find some materials on their site.

Thanks, been trying to get the materials finish I want and just can't find it....  working with 2013 is a bit tricky as I only just got it and learn't on 2011, things are just in different places.  I can do a checker plate finish, and a few other ones, but there is nothing that even vaguely resembles colourbond or any other type of metal cladding.

I'll have a look on the site you suggested, thanks heaps.

Try SteelSelect.com for Colorbond Textures & Renders.

Look at the bottom left corner for the Link to Revit files.

doodle,

Thanks for picking this up.  I was at home when I posted and I remembered color cland instead of colorbond.  But steel select was where I wanted to point them to.
