We've been having this error occur repeatedly and cannot get it to go away! The error is "Can't edit Element Until 'user' resaves the element to central and relinquishes".  We've tried everything, but it keeps returning. I'm hoping someone here at Revit City can help us.

THE SYMPTONS

1. There is a particular series of sheets which repeatedly show up as being checked out.  It is always the same series which cause the problem (we think the sheets are somehow corrupt).

2.  They are almost always checkjed out by users who have not worked on them and sometimes the users have not EVER accessed the files (this leads us to believe there the error may be spreading through links).  The

2. At times this error becomes so prevalent a loop is created where no one can do anything because everyone needs someone else to Synch.  We eventually clear it, but it causes significant down time and information has been lost.

3. Occasionally, once we clear the permissions the exact same sheets show as being checked out by a different user (as if they are stuck in a queue as a similar thread on Revit City suggested).

4. The project is a large hospital and there are many users and many linked files.

WHAT WE'VE DONE

1. Opening the files with all the worksets off then loading the worksets once the file is open seems to work.... most of the time. However, sometimes the only way to get the file to open is log in as the perpetrator and relinquishes or synchronise.

2. We've detached the files and overwritten the central. This seems to help but eventually the same sheets create the same errors.

3. We use workshare monitoring to make sure people are not synching at the same time and that people don't wait too long between synchs.

4.  We've deleted and re-created the problematic sheets but the problem still occurs.

Somehow there is an emebedded error associated with a aprticular series of sheets and we can't fix it.  To date, this problem has cost us over a hunder hours of lost time.  Any Suggestions are welcomed!

Have you looked at the workset settings?  Nobody should be checking out view worksets but they may be.  Go to your worset tab, click on worksets and check the views.   Does anybody show as owners of a view workset (in particular - sheets)?  They can be borrowers but you don't want them to be owners.

Have you found a solution to this problem? We are running into the same problem with some sheets and are losing a lot of valuable time. We have checked the workset tab, as well as the other steps you have taken to remedy the problem, with no luck

Any help is welcomed.

You need to understand worksets better.

Open the worksets tab then check the views box and uncheck the other boxes.  Notice that each view has a workset and each sheet has a workset.   These views and sheets are borrowed by whoever has last touched them without saving to central.  If you want to work on a view and someone else is controlling the sheet, open the view ... don't activate it from the sheet.

Also, we recommend that you have your own model working plans where you can manipulate model elements.  NOTE... You still have to add annotative elements to the proper sheet views.

Try this one. It's not the really solution to the issue but...

If you didn't try by changing user name.

Be careful with this.  You should only change to a user name IF THAT USER IS NOT IN THE MODEL!
