I have a building that has a very specific area schedule, about 12 categories. I need to know how to create custom area types. Anyone know how to do this. I can't organize by name because the names need to vary...

You will need to start using shared parameters which you then associate with areas.
Our firm for example uses one I created called JMA_area_type (JMA is our firms initials)
You will want to consult the Revit help file and read it before diving into using shared parameters. The decisons you make on shared parameters today will be with you for a very long time so it is best to fully understand them before taking the plunge.

Can you give a little bit more detail as to how you created your custom area types. Do I create a completely new Shared Parameter or can I edit the one that's already there... In addition how do I associate the new Area Type so that it creates a new correspond shade/color value.
I really appreciate the response.
