Hi,

I'm using Revit architecture 2013.  I'm trying to make a simple railing and it's not working for me...  attached is images of what I'm trying to make it look like, and what happens, I'm basically at this stage just trying to get the panels showing right and for some reasons it's only showing the bottom bit of the panel.

Also as the pattern is very detailed I've created a perforated image, but the whole image is showing as solid, not the see through bits.  How do I fix this?  I'm sure by looking at the images you'll see what I mean.

Thanks!

This is NOT a simple railing!

How are you creating this intricate panel?

It's just a simple rectangle extrusion, the pattern is a material.  I've worked out how to do the cutout material =D and I gave up on the railing for now and just did a generic family... But I'd love to get this working as a railing if possible, see image attached.

In the REVIT world we live in this is a 'very complex railing'. I would not attempt it in fact. Unless I was in the business of manufacturing those railings for a living.

I'd just make this out of a regualr family or in-place family. Perhaps nest a full panel and a 1/2 panel family in there.

A railing is geared to flex the width of the panels and spacing. Getting those panels to expand / contract / truncate to accomodate the post to post spacing is a ton of work. I wouldn't attempt it.

Just make a regular external family (typical condiition with fixed post to post spacing) and nest the panels. Or make a family of a full section and a 1/2 section and just butt them end to end.

Perhaps someone else can suggest a way to do it in a railing family.

Didn't get a chance to view that AU video posted but I would be VERY surprised if those railing images were produced with the actual Railing tool. They look like custom families to me. In which case the possibilities are in fact vast.

Does anyone think those railings can be completed with the REVIT Railing tool ? I'm interested.

Sure, you coud do this.  However, your end conditions would be a mess since it would have to repeat in what looks like... oh... 25cm segements at smallest.  just trim down your baluster panel to the width of one pattern, and edit the profile of the extrusion to be intricate.  Or cut the panel with a void sweep, if your extrsusion is vertical.

okay

This is OP's railing by the way.  If he checks back, he's free to use it... spacing for the baluster is 1'10".  remove all gaps, offsets, etc.
