I have been trying for hours to align a window frame face to an exterior face fo wall.

No matter what parameters, aligning, or reference planes added nothing moves my window to the outside face of wall.

It is driving me nuts! Even kiddy programs make this easy... In ADT I would have been done hours ago.

There should be some set paramters setup for windows and doors so the aligning of parts is much more easy automated.

This is not a Revit problem.  It is a problem with your window families.

The window family has to be built with a setback parameter.  You can't add it easily afterwards.  I build my windows with this feature and also my exterior doors.

"Windows" are also not made by the Revit team at autodesk.  They're often made by users.  You never know what you get when you download a family--sometimes it will seem like magic, and sometimes it will be a complete disaster of a family that does nothing you want.

Many of the included families are extremely basic in their functionality, and have been staples in the revit library for over a decade.  They show their age.

However, the ability to create your own custom families in revit is one of its strengths.  It's just a bit of a learning curve.  Once you've mastered making families, you can also see how revit *thinks.*  Which is a cool revelation.
