I have tonns of store signs and billboards that I need to make into familyes, The way I do it is I make an extrution only 2 cm thick and then wanted to place a photo onto the extrution and keep it that way so when loaded in the project the sign inclueds the photo (which basically is the sign).
I always get the warning that the photo will not be visible in the project when I place it in the family, I just cant and wont belive that it is not possible to make a family which includes a photo, I have tried manupilaiting the extrutions material to use that as the photo but I have 2-10 photos in every sign or billboard which makes it a bit more complicated.
PS.I am quite new to revit and hopfully someone here has an easy solution to this.
Regards
Johannes

Decals can not be placed in families. From your HELP:
Sharing Decals Between Projects
If you create several decals in one project, you can use them in another project. To do this, click Manage tab Settings panel (Transfer Project Standards). In the Select Items to Copy dialog, select Decal Types. See Transferring Project Standards.
Make sure that the image files for the decals are available to the target project. When Revit Architecture needs to access the image file, first it looks in the location specified for the file, using the absolute path. If it cannot find the file in that location, Revit Architecture then searches the paths specified on the Rendering tab of the Options dialog. See Setting Options.
If you send the project file to another team member, you must also send the image files for the decals. See Best Practice for Storing Image Files.

It's not an easy solution, but you CAN make a material of your image that's sized correctly for your signs. Apply the material--and although it's tiling infinitely, you only see one repetition.
For example--for a stop sign: Get a .jpg of a stop sign and crop it tightly in a square--flat edge to flat edge. Now model your octagonal stop sign family at 18" wide, or whatever. Go back to your material and resize the image tile to be 18"x18".
Add a hatch to your material. why not an 18x18 crosshatch. "position" the render image to fit squarely within the hatch.
Having a hatch on your material will allow you to arbitrarily move it relative to the object it's placed upon, now that the render material is logically locked to it.
(it frankly might be easier to model the signage)

Thanks to both of you,
I have studyed both solutions and went with WWHub since I am using more than one picture in each sign (billboard), It workes fine.
Even tough I would mostly want to create a family in order to make it more simple for the customer then the decal project solution is the next best thing.
Thank you both, specially for the quick reply to this post!
