Need help with masking region in family.

I am building a generic family (3D) of a toilet cabin, there I have inserted another family, a washer (which is set as furniture). Everything works fine, I can see it in 3D and 2D.

But my main problem is the masking region of that washer, it is always showing in all sections in the project. When I make a section in the project file, with direction away from the washer (not even cutting it, just opposite direction) it should not show in that view but it does. I am not able to put the masking region in the washer family to either Front or Back, just center to Front and Back.

I have tried to set the working plane of the masking region to one of the objects(3d), it still shows in both views. In the main family the toilet cabin is shown correct, when I make a section through the family in the plan view.

In the project where the toilet cabin (which holds the washer) is imported, the masking region of the washer is shown in views that show the front of the washer, when I make a section through the family.

So to sum it up it is masking region in a family inside another family, that projects in all section views that cut the family.

Hope someone can understand this and can help me with this brain pain Winking ..

You have probably used a non-cuttable family.  If any part of the family is cut, the whole family is shown and that will include the washer.

I think you are using the wrong process here.  You would be better off to have seperate families grouped to gether if need be.  But even then, if your view cut plane crosses anything from your washer family (INCLUDING INVISIBLE LINES), that family will show.

Thanks for the reply!

I changed the main family to casework, which is cuttable and the masking region still comes in the unwanted views. But I can see the other families like the sink is being cut with the section. I am starting to not like masking regions inside another family.

Take it out of the family and use a group!

I would but this is a family that I need to share with many other designers in different projects. That they can implement this family to their projects as easy as importing a normal family. Plug and play function Winking

Thanks for the input, did not know that it was possible as you sad need to read the help Smile .. this is something that I will check out. One question as where I could not find what is the advantages or disadvantages for using groups instead of families? Other than that it works better when you have families inside other families Winking
