I'm trying to create schedules for commonly used data for my code sheets. For example, for indicating the lead designers on the project, I'd like to select a firm name from a pull down text field, this in turn would occupy another text field that you would then select that firm's designers which would then occuy fiels with their info for their contact info, license info, etc... I'm looking to automate this process as much as possible to elimnate wasteful time inputing this for all our users. First, is this possible in Revit? Second, how are key schedules involved as the second part of the explanation above would seem to require it.

The data info indicated above would not reference model elements, which is where I'm stuck on how to create a key schedule without referencing a model element. I would have thought this possible since Revit, at it's core, is a databse management system.

Thanks for any help!

P.s. I'm running Revit Architecture 2012.

A schedule key doesn't have to point to a model element.  But that doesn't solve your problem. There is no way to have the selective pull-downs you describe.  Schedule keys are DUMB.  They just hold preset data, they are not an active element.  So you can have multiple rows with data like:

Consultant A - Designer A - License A

Consultant A - Designer B - License B

Consultant B - Designer C - License C

So what your saying is just create a schedule with the fields I want for however many individual instances. Then allow the user to select within the schedule what person they want to list with their correspnding info. So using this logic, what category do I need to associate with the date? Multi-Category? Wouldn't this demand that I create shared parameters for the schedule info? If so, then the shared parameters need to be assigned to a least some category for the schedule to use. This is where I'm a bit confused.

Thanks.

No.

You can create a schedule key as I have shown you but that data can only be transferred to a schedule of something in the category of the schedule key.  .... It is a schedule key!   I am assuming, you want this to be project data and I don't think this will help here.
