Hi, I have downloaded the window "40mm Double Casement Window - even" from the download section of this site but when I put it into my project and change the visual style to Realistic the glazing becomes soild grey. The transparancy is fine in the shaded and consistant colour view. Also a different window has transparent glazing in the realistic view so the issue is not with the lighting.

I have gone into the family editor and changed the glazing to clear in the materials section of that which appeared to fix the problem but when I reload the window in the project it still remains soild.

By changing the glazing in the windows family prior to loading it into a new project the transparancy then works fine in realistic mode. So I then decided to link the revit file with the solid glazing into this to see if that would solve it but it is still solid. Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this?

Check to make sure that the material is holding its properties in the PROJECT that you are inserting it into.  You said that you checked and changed the material in the window family then brought it into the project, so make sure in the PROJECT the window is the same material.

T H E   P R O J E C T   R U L E S   ! ! !

Once a material is defined in a project, that definition controls any item in a family that has the same material and is loaded later.

SO Chage the material in the project.

Thanks for your replies. Unfortunately when I go to edit type in the project nothing shows up under materials which is why I had to go into the family editor to change it in there.

The other window type I downloaded allows me to change the glass material in the pjoject alright.

Any chance one of you might download it and see if the same thing happens for ye? Just so I can be sure the issue's not on my end but is an issue with that particuler window object.

NO - Not edit type.  In the project, you want to modify the material definition.

MANAGE TAB / MATERIALS - Find the material as it is named in the family but edit it here in the project.

When I dowload and open the family from here the material that is used is Glass_Silver, when I looked at it in the materials it is solid material with NO transparency.  You should create a NEW material in the family with a specific name and change it to be the material you want.  Then once you load it in the project go to MANAGE and click the MATERIALS button and find the material that you made in the family and make sure that it is still the glass material that you made in the family, and if it is not then change the material in the PROJECT.

Thank you guys so much. It was the material in the project that was the issue alright, reloading didn't change it after I made it clear in the family editor. Didn't know about the manage>materials tab. Still new to this.

Thanks again for your help.
