When I make a change to a family that has already been loaded into a project, do I HAVE to load into project to see the change? My main reason for asking is, I am in the process of creating some typical pieces and lets say I make a change to somethingthat is in several projects...do I have to go in and re-load it into all projects or upon opening a project (after the change has been saved)will it be reflected in the older projects?
Thanks!

You will need to reload the family to see the change.

Once loaded, all families exist in the project and are completely independent of your library. They are not linked elements. This is also true for your template. All families in that are also not linked.
