I have created this pattern: an 8" spaced hexagon of continuous lines

*HEXSB, Hexagons;%TYPE=MODEL-120,0,0,9.25,0120,4.625,0,9.25,00,0,0,0,8

I have saved it as Revit-SB.pat

when I try to load it into with fill pattern / new / custom / import   i get the message "no model type patterns found"

the numbers come from the chart attached.  What am I doing wrong???  syntax???

Looks like the hatch pats I remember.  is the semicolon before the %type necessary?  i can't remember off the top of my head.

consider getting the Mertens3D "hatch22" plug-in.  It's free.  You draw your hatch with revit lines, and then it converts it to hatch pattern file for you.  I've been told this might not be backward-compatible in a cad export sense, but I can testify it works GREAT within revit.  I've made a half dozen or so custom wood textures that blow all of our old CAD pats out of the water.

Edit:  didn't see your revised post.

just made this in hatch 22.

As you can see, it's not elegant, but then again, none of us are using 486 DOS boxes that care about 800byte pats vs 5kb pats.

Thanks!   That Mertens add-in looks to be really clever.  They say the r2013 version is pending.  I installed on r2012 and couldn't quite figure out how to work it, but I definitely will re-visit it.  You pattern worked like a charm.

OK, I took a couple minutes to figure it out, it works like a charm.  Hats off to Mertens!  Do you know of a place that keeps track of available add-ins and 3rd party Revit products?

I posted a new version of hatch22-2012 last night. It is now compatible with 2013.

There is also a revit file with a bunch of sample hatch patterns and the templates used to create them.

YW Steve.

There are a couple sites out there that i've come across, but I haven't bookmarked any.

I'll bet someone on here will have some links.

Thanks

you make me love converting from archicad to revit because making hatch pattern in archicad was easy but with your good free tool i am happy thanks.
