Hi, I am new to Revit building, I am using Revit MEP 2011 software.
I know to create family types in rfa file with different dimensions by making them parametric.
I would like to know whether family types can be created based on feature presence in the model
Example: Say family type 'a' contains two pipes k1 & k2 ,and i needed family type 'b' to have only one pipe k1.(another should not be present)
hope i am clear, kindly help me on this.

I do not know of a way to have the family react to the project environment except for reporting parameters. Reporting parameters are very limited and are not what you need.
Sorry but this will have to be your choice when placing the object.

Thanks all for your suggestions,
In a family file, i would like to include notes explaining the model.
I had created an annotation family and uploaded to the working family at reference level. The family file had all the details as notes in it.
when i started to upload this family file (containing notes) to the project file, the annotations are also uploading along with the family file result, apperance of these notes even in project file. This is causing problem. I wanted these notes not to appear in projet family.
Kindly help me on this or suggest any other method to add notes in family file.

As the second poster suggested a yes/no parameter in your properties would take care this issue aswell. right click on the text and go to properties under your graphics catogory there is a selection for vivibe. if you go all the way to the right of the visible line there is a small grey box select that box and select add parameter and chose yes/no. click apply the done of ok cant remeber which one you get. now when you click o the family it will have a parameter for yes no which contriols your vivibility of your text in your family.
