Hi,

I've imported a CAD dwg 2D floor plan into REVIT(2012) and I'm looking for a way of creating the walls for this particular historic building. I know I could pick lines if the walls were straight and of even thickness but I'd like to keep the 'as surveyed' details of the walls. Ideally, I'd like to 'pull up' the walls like you would in sketchup. Has anyone any ideas for this? I've attached a PDF of said GF plan showing external walls.

Regards ... J.D.

The interesting thing about existing building surveys is that they are accurate only at the point of the measurement.  Since this is a 3D world, they are most likely not correct above and below that point.  So why think that simply extruding these lines up is an accurate representation?  However, you can extrude all of these as in-place walls ... but you will have many, many problems doing this. Especially at the top conditions.

The traditional way of representing existing buildings is to use straight or curved walls as appropriate that average the existing conditions.  I believe this to be a far easier approach, and overall, maybe just as accurate.  When people use a 3D point cloud survey, the software will find a face that represents most of the 3D points and use that.

if you want to pull the walls up like you would in SketchUp, use a in-place Mass Extrusion or use the Conceptual Editor.
