I'm working with a model that was supplied by another firm and they used curtain walls to create most of the windows.
Though technically the windows aren't curtain walls, they will be built in much the same way. I've found that if I create
curtain wall windows, I can get around the issues of tagging, but some of these windows have angled top rails, that
follow the slope of the roof. It appears that only square/rectangular panels can be converted to windows. Does anyone
know of a workaround? I'm using RAC2012.

As you can see in this picture, 106-109 are curtain wall panels converted to windows, no problem. 222 & 224 cannot be
converted to windows.

You can edit a CW sketch - just like any wall - to have a perimeter of any shape and the perimeter mullions will follow that shape. The panels can also be any shape.

Now I think I know what you are asking. You are swapping the panel for a window. You are right - a window family set to be rectangular will not go into that panel shape. You would need a special family to do that.
We use curtainwalls all the times to represent windows. We just use a wall tag designed to look like our window tags. You could do the same.

Thank you for your quick reply. I have done that, and it seems to work, but my company wants opening sizes and for
some reason it won't display. I'll keep working away at it.

You can schedule the individual panels and you could tag those with a window like tag. BUT height and width will not schedule for non-rectangular panels. Of course it doesn't really work for non-rectangular windows either. The area of the panel will schedule no matter what the shape.
