Hi there
I am new to the program and am teaching myself how to use it with the Revit 2012 Essentials book.
I have just reached chapter 3 and the exercies involves creating and modifying a generic wall type.
The only problem is when I select 'new wall' the generic wall types are missing.
Does anyone know where these are located in the program?

When you say "when I select 'new wall' the generic wall types are missing." what exactly are you doing? You have a project open, on the modify tab you click WALL, then in your properties type pulldown there are no walls available?

Open a plan view then click on "modify place wall".

As I said i am following exercises in the 2012 essential book. The exercise states to select 'generic wall 6' but the only wall types I have available are already defined as metric cavity construction, block/ brickwork or stud partitions.
The Generic walls in the book appear to have no defined construction (plasterboard) etc so you can modify from scratch.
I tried the 'load family' function but they dont appear in the Library.
I am wondering if it has something to do with using UK software rather than USA

You should have a generic wall ... but even if you don't, you can use any wall as a start and create a new type from it. It does not have to be the generic wall.

I would assume that it has to do with the software because you should have a Generic 6" wall already. Walls are a system family so there aren't any to load. You can just make a generic 6" wall to follow along with the book.
Oops my bad WW you got your post in before me!
