Can anyone tell me how I can see the structural timbers..either joists/rafters or trusses in my drawings?

You can see anything that is modeled in Revit. So to "see" the trusses, you must insert the trusses in the project in the location you wish, even as you do your doors and windows.
Go to the family editor on this site, structural, trusses, and download the trusses you need and insert them into your model. When you section the model or remove the roof from the view you should see all the structure.
