I need to place a troffer light to the ceiling be surface mounted.  I tried to modify the fixture family by moving the ceiling above the fixture, but the fixture still shows recessed mounted in section view.  Please help.  Thanks.

Don't use a troffer, they are recessed.  You can find surface mounted lights in the dowloads.  If you like the troffer "look" - edit the family to move it mbelow the ceiling.

Yes, I want to keep the troffer "look".  I couldn't find a surface mount troffer in the Downloads.

I guess my question should be "how can I modify the troffer family?"  I moved the reference level line above the fixture, but that didn't work.

Remember, I said don't use a trofferYou would be better off to use a surface mtd flourescent and add the box.  Much simpler.

My problem is on the opposite

I used revit drywall ceiling and recessed light. But the light always sit on the surface of the ceiling rather than cut and sit flash to the ceiling surface.

Thanks!!

If your light doesn't recess, then its not a recessed light no matter what it is called.  Find a different fixture.
