We are doing a complex hospital project. Due to file size limitations I am wondering is spliting the interior build out (which will be published a few months after the s&c) into a seperate model is a good idea. We will have lots of furniture plans, equipment plans, and build out for the interior. The main central model will be just shell and core. we also have 3 or 4 other smaller build outs (offices & departments) that will built and designed as we are doing the interior.

So is the strategy of having multiple build out files based on issues like this a good plan? the site will be in shell and core. any one have any experience with splitting the interior from the skin and can offer tips?

I would do exactly what you are planning I think.  Seperate file for the seperate interior projects and main shell and core linked into them.

Only difference is that I would keep the site in a seperate file.
