If I have built an arch model in 2012 can our structural model be built and linked in an older version?  What do you do if your consultants do not have the same version you are currently running?

This is one of those Revitisms ... "You have to think ahead".  Revit has never been backward's compatable.  You can not open or link in a later Revit model than the Revit seesion you are in.

Yes Revit is not backward compatible, but technically you can link an older model without it directly affecting that disciplines original model. Revit will upgrade the linked model for the session you are working in (and continue to do so whenever you open your file with that one linked in) but it will obviously not affect the original linked consultant file.
