We have 5 people working on one Revit 2012 model out of 3 different offices. We continue to get stuck in these "loops" where permission is requested for a certain element. When one of us tries to sync to central, it says we must reload latest first. If we try to reload latest, it tells us we must sync to central first, but we obviously can't. This happens to both people on either side of the requestor/requestee. Our only solution so far is for one of us to save to local only and close the file. It seems to fix it, but we waste a lot of time going back and forth like this, especially with 5 people working on it. Any ideas/thoughts/comments would be greatly appreciated.

From Autodesk Support:

Thank you for choosing Autodesk Support.

I understand when trying to sync a local file or relinquish ownership (which sometimes requires syncing first), you get an error that another user needs to relinquish and save first. When they go to relinquish, they also get the error, but with a different user.

This I not an uncommon even when there are a number of local files all hitting one central file.

The fix is to follow the errors to a first user (chase the error around the local files), and once someone is able to save and relinquish, have the users save and relinquish in the reverse order. Once that process is completed, I would go through the following process:

1.     Open the Central file directly with Audit Checked.

2.     Use Save As to save the file on top of the old version.

3.     Relinquish all ownership.

4.     Close Revit.

5.     On the workstations, open Windows Explorer (Windows key +E).Type %temp% in the address bar.

6.     Delete as many files as possible from this folder. Some files may not be able to be deleted if they are in use by other applications on your machine.

7.     Move the local files and their backups to the desktop.

8.     Open the project file with "Create new local" checked.

I would then go into the Revit options and turn the Worksharing Update Frequency to Manual.

Also, are users using the Worksharing Monitor?

If the behavior continues, please reply with the journal files from each person accessing the central file along with the worksharing log.

The worksharing log is located in the backup folder of the central file, and will have a .slog file extension.

You can find the location by pasting the path below into the Address Bar if a Windows Explorer window:

C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit Architecture 2012\Journals

Best regards,

We already do that and seems to have not helped with this project. Thanks for the advice. We are still having issues with this and it's frustrating that Autodesk claims it is a pretty regular problem. I have worked on one detail all day.

yes, it's an annoing problem. One wonders how they dare to collect 6.000 dollars for a product with this kind of issues.

Look into using cloud based systems.
