I'm working with a 3d dxf from CAD.  When imported the geometry doesn't cut in section.  Some old forums suggested importing the dxf into a family - in this way the dxf "cuts" properly in a project file.  IS it possible in 2012 to get a 3d dxf behaving properly in a project file?

Dxf files behave properly in the project but no CAD import cuts when directly imported.

When CAD imports are placed in a "cuttable" family, they will cut but multifloor CAD files will not work like you think so be aware of that.

If you are trying to work with consultants that are using CAD, I suggest you have them give you the CAD seperated by levels.  This seems to work the best.
