I wanted to create a surface pattern to represent panel joints on cladding, but found that the maximum extent of a pattern was smaller than the 3m panel size. 

Is there a way around this?

That is true of DRAFTING patterns, but I suspect you should be creating a MODEL pattern which can handle much larger patterns:

Put a ine containing

;%TYPE=MODEL

at the start of the pattern definiition as explained here:

Thanks for that!

It was a Model pattern, but after a closer look at the file, I discovered I had no units defined in the file. 

When I added ;%UNITS=MM  all worked fine.

I am guessing it defaults to inches or feet if not defined, and this led to the size error.

Glad you spotted that. Defaults to DRAFTING and INCHES for some reason Smile

Those with patterns expressed in feet or metres can scale up by 12 or 1000 as appropriate on loading.
