Hello,

Im trying to export a grid file to Autocad for a client from my Revit file. When I export it, it sets the precision in the Autocad file I created to 1/16". This particular client sets their precision to 1/256". Inevitably, when they bring my exported cad file at 1/16" precision into their cad file at 1/256", I assume whoever has the answer to this problem knows that the dimensions are %*!@#$. Anybody out there able to give me a clue? Thanks!!!

If you use Revit at 1/256" tolerance your CAD file export will be that.  Your dimensions will be according to your dimension tolerance.  Your CAD file settings after export can be set to whatever you wish in CAD.

Hi! Thanks for the quick reply. I verified my project units are rounded to 1/256". I verified my units format in my dimension properties are 1/256". When I export to .dwg, my drawing units in the Autocad file are 1/16". haha... do you know what I might be missing?

However, I just realized when I do take that file into any other cad file with different precision settings, It dimensions correctly and everything is fine. Many years ago, I got into the practice of setting my units in Autocad to match the architectural. (Im structural) If I didnt and we had different precision settings at the beginning of the project, all our dimensions and layout would off just a bit. You couldnt just change it afterwards. Maybe they fixed that...

Anyway, Im trying to control the units/precision settings in the .dwg file Im creating without having to change it after its created.

Hi, here are two things, one is the actual length, another the dimension which based on the dimension setting.

If you draw a wall 12'-6 19/256" long, the actual wall will be exact 12'-6 19/256" in both Revit and AutoCad.

If your setting in Revit is 1/256" then the dimesion for that wall will be 12'-6 19/256"; if the Cad setting is 1/16", then

the dimension in Cad will be shown as 12' 6 1/16", vice versa. You can try it yourself.

Hi! Thanks for taking the time to respond. Yes, Im aware of how the dimensions behave with the different precision settings. Im just not clear on how to control the setting when I want to export to a .dwg. Currently, I have everything set to 1/256" but when I export it, the .dwg files units/precision I created is 1/16". Ive verified my Revit project units and my units format in my dimensions properties are 1/256". Im just trying to see if theres anything Im missing, doing something wrong or maybe there is no answer. Thanks again!

The units precesion in autocad has nothing to do with what was exported to CAD.  It is only a setting for anything added .... and it can be set in CAD.  Open the file and reset it to what you want.
