I am trying to create a bathroom wall that has half height ceramic tile so the bottom half is tile up to the wainscoating. I tried to do this with the splitting the regions, but it seems I need to add a material to the top also to keep the wall coplaner. is there a simple way to do this? Will I need to create a compound wall?

For tiled walls, full or partial height, we add a thin wall against the face of the standard wall (model like you build). After placing, just join the wwo walls and doors / windows will cut both walls.
