Has anyone figured out a work around for using the Count in a formula in the Schedules. I am trying to take a stud count and multiply it by a waste percentage to get a more realistic number for our stud order. Any insight is greatly appreciated. I know this has been on the wishlist for quite some time.

hello ddenton.

stud count = length/ stud spacing.

what about reducing stud spacing by the waste increment you wish to add.

ie if stud spacing is 600mm or .6m, and you want  5% waste, reduce the 600mm spacing by 5% to increase the count.

using 5% as waste, the spacing would be 570 instead of 600  (600*5/100=30).

so in a 5m run of studs with no waste  and studs at 600ctrs there would be 8.33 + 1 studs(start of run)=9.33 rounding = 9 studs

the same with 5% waste would be 8.77 studs + 1 = 9.77 . rounded up = 10 studs

cheers mate.

I would think you just add a calculated field, a seperate column that performs this for each wall, then totals.

I am using an addin that populates my walls with studs, top plates, base plates, and frames out my openings and creates custom stud configurations for wall intersections. My studs are acctually there and not just a result of a formula. I suppose this might make what I am doing a little more difficult, but I do get a very accurate number. I can show the customer this number no problem. We just want to be able to show them everything we can, including waste.

What program are you using?  We are currently trying to find a better way to calculate studs.  Our project manager as been using a Length/9" but my boss swears thats too much.  I'm the guy with the job of finding a better way...
