I want to be able to use the spot elevation in instances where the elevation might need to be "faked" a bit.  Is there a way to override the actual elevation numbers like you can with dimensions to replace it with what I want it to say with either numbers or text?

Bad ....bad...BAD! ...

I hear you....

I don't believe there are any over-rides available but you can:

  1. Set up different spot elevations with different units (rounding )
  2. Create a fake spot elevation family
  3. Add a small 3D line in the proper place and elevate that.

Yea not good I know but sometimes its just easier.  What do you mean by create a fake spot elevation?  Itd be nice to be able to add text to the spot elevation instead of the numbers.

Just edit your spot elevation tag - remove the parameter that reads the elevation and add an instance text parameter, then save under a different name and load it in your ptoject.

So I fooled with this a bit yesterday and I couldnt figure it out.  The spot elevation is a system family (hard to find at first) but when I found it and opened the file under the RAC 2012\Libraries\US Imperial\Spot Elevation- Target Filled to modify it all that is there is the target head and filled region.. not text or parameters.  I'm assuming that I am looking in the wrong spot, could you point me to the correct location if I am?

Sorry, I forgot that was system.  You will have to make a unique symbol that still uses your cross hairs.
