I am losing my mind trying to solve my current problem. I am setting up schedules and material takeoffs for several elements in my model. I would like to have a field in my project information where I can specify a percentage of waste, and in turn have that percentage appear in my schedules and act upon the given material counts using formulas. i.e.  Be able to go to project information and type in 15 5 in the "Floor Decking Waste" field. Then be able to link that percentage to my floor decking material take off and using it in a formula that I use to calculate The material need plus waste " ((area/32) * (1 + (Waste %))). Can this be done? Can I create a parameter that will register in both my project information and Floors?

I have been working in those two windows for hours now. I can get the parameters to show up where I want them, I am trying to get to where they will "talk" to each other. Plug the information in under the project information, then have that information show up in the schedules.

There is no way for this to be the same number.... And should it be?  Some materials have more waste than others.

I believe you don't understand that these shared parameters that you assign are for those items no matter how they are named.  So a waste field under project information relatetes to project information.  Naming it "Floor Decking Waste" doesn't really tie it to floor decking material even if "Floor Decking Waste" is also a shared parameter assigned to floor decking material.  They are not the same "CONSTANT" which is what you want.

Sorry - they only way to get this cross function would be to export your items to excel or access or something like that.

I understand that, I am starting with floor decking waste just to start. I wanted to have several "fields" in the Project information where I could put specific waste percentages for each type. 15% for some, 10% for others and so on. Then have the schedules be able to read those specific numbers from the project information and apply them to calculated values in my schedules. The floor decking schedule could get it's value from the field in the project information. Then the calculated value in that schedule could take that value and output it how I needed. I understand for the most part how the idea works. I know I could go in and put calculated values in all of my schedules and getthe numbers I need. I am simply asking if there is a way I can easily change those waste percentages without having to go into the properties of each schedule and change them there per builder. I already have to change what information populates my tittle block per each builder. And I do so from shared parameters in the project information. I think it would be more efficient if I could do the same for the different waste percentages. I know one builder wants me to calculate 20% waste on a certain material, where another builder would rather me calculate 15% waste for the same material. I understand if it is simply not possible. I am just looking for efficiency.

Now that I think of It I am wanting to create a "Label" to use as a constant value for use in my schedules. Kind of like the title block information. Only instead of reporting to my title block I'd like it to report to my schedules. Is that possible?
