Hi there.

We are currently using Revit 2012 as of a week ago (31/01/2011) and we are still getting used to the new features of it.

One of our current jobs has been turned into a central file and we have only just set up our worksets, etc.

The problem we have is that when 2 or more people are working on the file (separately), and one of us clicks the 3D button to go to the default 3D view, Revit automatically creates a 3D view with our name in it.

IE: {3D - Example}

Is this to do with our worksets? Or the various owners of particular elements?

We didn't have this problem when using Revit 2009 so we were just concerned if this is something that happens in 2012.

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

This is a new, and very nice, feature in 2012.  Every user has their own 3D view.  You can still open each others 3D view if you wish, or you can rename your or any other 3D view something else and the next time you click on the 3D icon, Revit will create another one with your name.

This allows each user to be working in their own 3D view without having interferance from other users.  We do this with our floor plans as well.  We have our sheet view floor plans but each user creates their own working floor plan to work on the model in.  Obviously the sheet view is the only place you can work on the 2D, annotative items for that plan.

Thanks for that.

The feedback on how you use your floor plans is also helpful; might consider using that within our projects as well.

One of the advantages of having a working plan in addition to your sheet view is you can place all sorts of notes and dimensions to yourself in that plan.  Like "HOLD THIS DIMENSION"... "WALL MOVED ACCORDING TO TOM".. or whatever.

Thanks again.  This feedback is beneficial to us in improving how we operate our projects.

Just a question for my own curiosity; on average, how many people do you usually have working on a project, and in addition to that, how many worksets do you usually have per project?

I'd just like to get a comparison as we only have 2-3 people working on ANY project.  I was just wondering if these were similar circumstances in other business.

Thanks.

We are not a large office so we may have 6 or 7 working on a project but most times it is just 3-4.

We have a workset for each linked Revit file.  We may also have worksets for linked CAD files.  In addition to workset1 and shared levels and grids, we always have a shell workset for the exterior of the building.  If we are doing interiors, we will have an interior workset.  Those are our usual worksets.  On unique projects, we may add a couple more but too many worksets can be problematic.

Thanks again.

It's nice to get a perspective on how other revit users set up their file.
