Hi, I am new to REVIT 2012 and not familiar with all the changes yet.  In previous versions I could simply click the "paint" can logo and assign pretty much anything in revit a material of my choice.  Is there a way to do this in the new version?  I tried to assign a "grass" material to a floor but when i rendered, it was just a plain grey floor with now grass.  PLEASE help me as I just cannot seem to figure this out, thanks!

Not that many changes in 2012.  If you were accustomed to painting, you still can but that (not a paint can image in 11 or 12 - now a soccer ball to cube) is poor practice generally.  You should be editing your type families and assign appropriate materials there.

In other words, I created a floor on the second story that extrudes from my house, and my plan is to make it a second story garden type of thing. How can I assign a grass material to my floor?

  1. Use a seperate floor type for that area only that has the correct material.
  2. Split the surface of your floor and assign a different material to the split area using the paint tool.

I would think that #1 is the way to do this because the floor thickness / structure willl be different.
