So I have built a container structure...ie One Steel Box. and it was created as a project. (it has walls and a ceiling and a floor so you can punch it with windows etc..) Ill post here for anyones free use. but now I want to turn it into a family, so that I could have them in the components menu like a tree or a car, but can this be done? I try the save as command, go to the family part, but then it doesnt seem to do anything...in fact it became a circular baluster named container...

Because you didn't create that as in-place and you have walls, ceiling and floor the best you can do is a GROUP and save that group, now you can load that group in other projects when you need.

If you really want it to be a family and it's not parametric, export it as 3D dwg, create a generic family and import your 3D dwg using Import CAD.

Thanks a lot, those are both great suggestions.

Can you re-post this thread with the Subject: Workaround-Project to Family? The idea is to easily find it in the Search Tab. The contents of your re-post would probably like:

Problem: Objects created in a project file (.rvt) converted to a Family (.rfa) (Or anything that suits your taste.)

Workaround: (You'll summarize here the best solution(s) that worked for this particular scenario as suggested in the thread. You can even add an image as supplement.)

Note: See my post yesterday entitled "Workarounds"
