Hello all,

I am new to revit. I have read through several books and it seems like they are great for giving you how to but when it come to real world application it falls a little short.  I am looking to call out plate heights on a multifamily building in revit 2012.  I would like the same text at each level "t.o.p." but revit won't let me have the same name. Any brillant work arounds or suggestions?  I guess I could call each level as a prefix but that seems redundant. Thanks in advance.

Edit your level family, select the Name label and uncheck the visible box. Type a text (i.e. t.o.p.), save and load to your project.

You will run into this type of stuff with intelligent software.  Realize that the problem is that the software is using these levels for parameters, so you cannot have two levels with the same name, or the parameters will not know which level you are talking about.  Suppose you put in a column and set it's top constraint to "T.O.P.", well, which "T.O.P." are you referring to????  You have to label them "1ST FLOOR T.O.P.", and "2ND FLOOR T.O.P."

Yes, Rod23 is right. But sometimes you just want it to look the way you always see it done. That's why we have workarounds.

I am curious how you constrain your walls when doing it this way. What is your top constraint for your walls if you turned off the label???  Do you have them all labeled level1, level2, etc. and just have to remember that level 'x' is the second floor plate???

All the levels will be accrdg to how you would label them (level 1, level2, etc). The idea of the workaround is just not to show the actual text value of the of the label, per the original problem.
