Greetings Revitizers!
Looking for some Revit Rendering help. I wanted to ask you guys what settings you change and feel produce the best renderings within Revit. Our firm doesn't have a 3Ds Max license and won't be getting one any time soon so Revit 12 is what we're working with. How do you guys produce your best renderings? I feel that I can create a good rendering but I want to get to GREAT. I've attached a rendering of a church I'm doing in Iowa. We're maybe 50% DD right now so as you can see, still a lot to develop.
What I use currently for settings is
Antialiasing 8
Reflections 0 (dependent of scene)
Refractions 100
Blurred Reflections 2
Blurred Refractions 2
Soft Shadow Precision 10
Indirect Illumination Precision 10
Indirect Illumination Smoothness 2
Indirect Bounces 2

I suggest some vegitation where the building meets the grass and especially at the horizon line one the sides. Fill in the side edges with trees etc.
You need "filler" in and around the building itself.
A busier background image will also help.
Also you must play with the exposure settings after the rendering is done.
You can really change the final rendering with these settings.

Yes, it needs a lot of landscaping. At this point, I'm more interested in "best practices" for rendering settings or any tips/tricks people have found that work well.
Also, the large cross is to be a self illuminating translucent material and I'm having issues with it lighting up during a night rendering. Anyone use this type of material before?

The most impressive renderings I've done are night images with custom starry backgrounds and lots of lighting fixtures. The custom backgrouds really give it an organic feel, not so CG. As dgcad mentioned, you need to adjust the exposure value settings depending on the sun settings and geometry shadows. Are you using the Cloud to render?? I think the cloud rendering is the best use of cloud technology so far.

I've played around with Cloud Rendering and I do like it. I just wish that after the rendering is complete that there were more settings that could be adjusted.

Another great tip is to be well aware of the difference between optimizing for print or screen. If you print out a screen optimized image, it will not look so good.

Yes, you need to dial in the exposure settings before you send to cloud

When I am ready to render, I add interior lights and just use the preset 'Best', and render it with "Sun and Interior artificial Lights". It will take time for sure but the result will convince you.
