I am using Revit 2012. I would like to able to set certain lines to show up in different detail level view settings. More specifically, I would like certain material lines within my walls to show up in section, but not in plan. I thought the best way to do this was by changing the view settings from fine to medium; however, I have not found a way to assign specific lines to show up in fine and not medium. Is it even possible to assign specific lines to a detail level view?

Have you tried view templates? You can create your prefered view setting when you make a new view or apply it to an existing view. There you can set up fine or medium  and adjust your graphic scale options.

Visibility control of wall layer lines is very limited.  Your coarse / medium-fine switch is by category, not wall type.  Other than that, you could use a filter to change the linework settings for some of your wall lines but you can't turn them off.
