Somewhere along the line my callout heads have gotten jacked. The Reference Label does not work at all... (SIM, OPP, TYP)
I have loaded the Out of the Box callout head and the Reference Label still does not work. I can type anything and nothing happens, it is like the label is lost in limbo.
I have recreated the Call Out Heads from scratch and still nothing... I have created them in the past but right now I am banging my head against a wall and the wall is winning...

i would try to transfer project standards from a previous project that they are working correctly and see if that overrides your current issue

K, I figured it out, It only seems to work when I reference an existing view.

I am still messing around with these CallOut Heads
It seems that elevation marks I can duplicate the family type and create a SIM, TYP etc... Family type
but with CallHeads I can not.
How are you creating different CallOut Heads for CallOuts so you can have SIM, TYP etc... without changing them all?

just create a callout referencing another view, then select it and in the type properties duplicate the System Family: Drafting View
you can has as many different types as you want

Ok, I think I am understanding
you said drafting view I am looking at enlarged plan views... They work different?
You wouldn't have a typ or Opp or Sim enlarged view, would you?

when you are creating the callout change the type selector from Floor plan: Floor plan to Detail View Detail. You can duplicate the System Family: Detail View. I have one for each type of detail sheet I use for browser organization. like Door Detail, Window Detail and so on.

Have they always worked this way? When I cut more than one section in a drafting view and change one to SIM they both change to SIM in that one view.
I don't remember them working this way in the past (I am not in production so I don't do this everyday)
I remember just duplicating the type adding the SIM and that is it, I would have one without SIM and one with SIM, seems to be more complicated than I remember.

I think this is where I am getting confused, there seems to be a difference between Section and Section Tag but they both also seem to be one in the same...
Where can I find the section tag? (I am lost in confusion at the present moment)

section tags aer under Manage: additonal settings: section tags (they are the annotation family for the actual callout head)
Section is a System Family that you reference what section tag you want to represent it. Section family really refers to the view you are looking at, not just the annotation.
I hope thats clear as mud

The mud is now clear
I have to have a section head family type to match each section view type in the project.
It took me a long time to figure that out...
It works just a little different to most families but now it works and I can control it.
Thanks Alabaster

Ok, I am still jacking around with these tags
I have figured out the Elevation Tags and SectionCut Tags do not work the same. Elevation Tags work as I would expect them to and this is what I think I was working with some time ago because it works as I would think it should.
It is the Section Tags that seem to be the pain in my side.
How do you have a master section cut and have two referencing tags with different reference labels? I might have a view where I want to say one view is SIM and the other is OPP but it seems I can only choose one.
If I make one reference SIM to my master and then cut a new section and reference it to the same master and apply OPP to it my SIM changes to OPP too...
I have tried many combinations for rebuilding and creating new family types but I can't seem to get it to give me more than one or the other but not both....
very frustrating.
