Hello, I am wondering how to add a material to a component (structural gluelam beam) that will rotate when you rotate the component. Here I what happens. Apply material to component which displays fine as long as the component is horizontal but when I rotate it to become a roof rafter the material stays horizontal. Is there anyway to make the material follow the direction of the beam? Thanks John Fleming

You need to assign the material to the beam itself in the beam properties. Select the beam, go to properties, adjust the Beam Material accordingly.

I have tried that and it still puts the material in horizontally. Am I missing something?

I think you are talking about a pattern. Try using the align tool by selecting the sloped beam edge then a horizontal line in the pattern.

create youre own acurender texture from a photo and rotate the photo image to the required angle before creating the texture.

That is what I ultimitely did but it seems that you should be able to put in a accurender texture and regardless of what it is applied to should rotate with the component. It seems to be pretty complicated if I wanted to have a bunch of componenets at different roof pitches to create a texture for each one.

If you place the cursor over the material and cycle the Tab key do any of the material lines highlight? If so you can select a line in the material and rotate or again use the align tool. If you post the material we can have a look. Are you talking about a shaded view, rendered view or both?

Generally materials will align perpendicular to the plane of your extrusion/sweep solid. Not sure why your beams material is doing what they're doing, could be to do with how the beam was created/extruded/swept? Short term fix is, as suggested create a duplicate material with the jpg image rotated in accurender. Long term fix would be to recreate the beams using sweeps and voids. HTH.

Mr. Spot, did the material rotation trick, just didnt know if there was a reason that this is happening. Using the gluelam beams that were packaged with the program. Thanks for your input it is always appreciated. John Fleming
