I would like to know why I can change the symbol for door tags with no problem and the symbol agrees with the mark in the properties dialog. When I try to change the number or letter in the window tags, I get a message that I am changing a type parameter and it takes a long time for the change to take place. The tag label doesn't agree with the mark label. Help please. Use Revit 2011.

You can set up any tag to read any family's shared parameters. Those can be type or instance parameters. If you don't want your window tag to read the type parameter, then you should edit that family, creating a new one, that reads the instance mark number.
