I have Revit 2011 and it will not let me load some files from the library. For example I tried to load a 2 x 12 into my project and a dialog box came up which said " Some or all of the family files you selected cannot be loaded. You must chose a family file fo the category component." It won't let me load some sinks, doors etc. What am I doing wrong?

what command are you using from the ribbon? if you are in the door command and hit load family you cannot load a window. if you go to the insert tab and load family you should be fine, or drag and drop them from windows explorer

This often happens with components that were made in the early days of Revit, and/or by someone who doesnt quite understand about Categories when creating a new family. The best thing to do is to open the element on its own, change the category to the correct one, Save it and then Load into Project.
